Trailer and Towing Training Do you need to tow a trailer, horsebox, caravan or even a boat? If the answer is yes then you may not be aware that since 1St January 1997 a new test was introduced by the licensing and testing authorities. If your trailer exceeds 750kgs or the combined weight of the towing vehicle and trailer exceeds 3500 kgs you may need to sit the B+E test. It is still possible for you to tow a trailer as long as you meet certain criteria. i.e. : Having sat your test prior to 1st January 1997 or if you passed after this date you may tow a trailer with a gross weight of 1.5 tons as long as the towing vehicle and trailer are very carefully matched, failure to comply with the new licensing laws can lead to a maximum of 9 penalty points a £1000 fine or even a ban. Trailer and Towing Courses Our trailer training is conducted in both Wales and Devon in preparation for the B+E trailer test. We recommend an assessment of your driving prior to commencing one of our courses, this assessment can take place in either yours or our vehicle (a reduction in price is made for using your own vehicle) with our trailer. The amount of training varies for each individual so our courses are usually between one and four days culminating with the practical test on the final day. Residential Trailer and Towing Training We offer residential trailer training using accommodation within easy reach of the test centre, all of which are to a high standard including a full English breakfast and many with en-suite facilities. Our residential courses usually consist of two and a half hours in the morning followed by lunch and a further two and a half hours in the afternoon.
